Drone wind turbine inspections

AeroSurvey has successfully inspected around 800 turbines in Austria, Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania, documenting damage found. We provide high-resolution imagery of blades and agreed asset areas for maintenance and condition assessment. Enquire about an inspection.

Comparable imagery from a consistent flight protocol

Inspecting wind turbines

Our standard flight protocol defines repeatable viewpoints and procedures, producing consistent image sets for documentation and comparisons across inspections. Weather, visibility and access are considered on every visit.

Drone rotor blade inspections

We document visible anomalies from agreed viewpoints:

  • Cracks and surface damage
  • Erosion
  • Chipping and material separation
  • Soiling and other visible changes

Images support specialist assessment. Hidden internal damage cannot be assessed from external photographs alone.

Your deliverables

Agreed imagery with asset identification in the specified format. Repeatable viewpoints help compare inspection dates.

3D models can be agreed as a separate service.

Experience, training and safety

Our experience covers around 800 turbines across five countries. Training includes the ENERCON basic course “Rotorblattbefundung mit Drohnen” and GWO Working at Heights courses.

Every project includes agreement on safety zones, access and operator requirements. About AeroSurvey.

Benefits of drone inspection

  • Non-contact capture of hard-to-reach components
  • High-resolution imagery for specialist assessment
  • Repeatable viewpoints
  • Targeted preparation of further tests and repairs

Shutdown and turbine positioning are agreed with the operator. Findings may require additional inspection methods.

Complementary thermography

Thermography can complement visual inspection by showing temperature differences on accessible surfaces.

Suitability depends on the component, operating state and environment. Scope and specialist analysis are agreed for the project.

Answers to your key questions

  • Who uses the data?

Our imagery supports operators, asset managers, maintenance teams and experts with condition assessment and maintenance planning. We have inspected around 800 turbines in Austria, Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.

  • How is the data captured?

We agree turbine numbers, scope, positioning and safety procedures. Images are captured from repeatable viewpoints under a consistent flight protocol and prepared for delivery.

  • Which turbine areas can be documented?

Visible blade, tower and nacelle surfaces and the surroundings, as agreed. Coverage depends on access and visibility. Internal and concealed components require other inspection methods.

  • How is wind farm safety planned?

We agree access, safety zones, turbine positioning and any required shutdown. Weather and operator requirements govern the inspection. Unsuitable conditions lead to a rescheduled visit.
